Recovery Companions Initiative

An invitation to become an Alcyon Recovery Companion

Years of praying, sitting, laughing, weeping, imagining and dwelling in the Silence with all of you makes clear that the Alcyon recovery community is the future of The Alcyon Center. Your willingness to delve into the silence and embody heartfulness in your lives beyond Seal Cove inspires us. We wonder at the blessing of coming to know you, of witnessing the formation of a kind of transformational community we could not have imagined when Alcyon opened in 2008.

We invite you to join us in a new Alcyon Recovery Companions Program and make a financial commitment now to Alcyon as a training ground for spiritual leadership that grows out of spiritual recovery. When you become an Alcyon Companion, you will help the Center hold for the next generations that follow you to Seal Cove, befriend the Silence, and take up the deep and courageous practices of heart work. If you are receiving this letter, you are already our companion (“one who breaks bread with another”), we know this in our hearts by the way you carry yourself, and Alcyon, into the world.

Already we have commitments from two recovery treatment centers to contribute upwards of $15,000 annually. It is our hope that you will also consider becoming a companion, at whatever level is comfortable for you, and help set the cornerstone for recovery work at Alcyon.

Our colleagues Piers Kaniuka and Liz Leuthner have been working with us to lead and inspire Alcyon programming since 2010. For the last two years they have guided us into forming a vision of Alcyon for the future, as Joan and Kathryn step away from the tasks of running the Center – but continue teaching. Piers and Liz have volunteered their time and donated their teaching stipends to seed the Alcyon Recovery Companions Program.

We are now asking you, the Alcyon recovery community and allies of recovery, to join them and become guardians of our financial and programmatic future by giving to your capacity. May we count on you?
