Nov 19-22 — Word & Image
with Susan Webster & Stuart Kestenbaum
Experimental image making and writing in silence and the natural world with artist Susan Webster and poet Stuart Kestenbaum. Two nights, $510
We'll make images that inspire writing, writing that inspires images, and work that combines the two. Writing and visual prompts will lead to the creation of mixed media work that may include collage, simple printmaking, drawing, and text to make simple book structures and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Susan Webster maintains a studio on Deer Isle. She's taught at Haystack (ME), Penland (NC), Studio Artworks Center (Jerusalem) and developed a model art program in the Maine prison system. Exhibits include Institute of Contemporary Art and Maine College of Art and the Jewish Museum (Portland ME). Susan is a hotline volunteer for the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence.
Stuart Kestenbaum is the author of five books of poetry, most recently How to Start Over. He's Maine's poet laureate and hosts Poems from Here on Maine Public Radio. He has been a visiting writer at Penland (NC), Rhode Island School of Design and elsewhere. Susan and Stuart frequently make artwork together that combines text and visual art.
